eVivlio

Free audiobook app by Greece's Ministry of Education, developed in partnership with Bookvoice.

eVivlio was created by the Greek Ministry of Education (MoE) in partnership with Bookvoice to provide students with access to more than 20 literary audiobooks—and soon, ebooks as well.

The Problem:

For the first time in Greece, the MoE had secured licensing rights to make 20 full-length literature books available to students free of charge. Bookvoice was selected as a key partner to produce the audiobook versions. However, a major challenge quickly emerged: there was no existing platform capable of hosting and distributing this content to students at scale and free of charge.

The Solution:

To meet this challenge, we designed and developed a new mobile app in record time. Key steps included:

  • Design language: We incorporated the official government design guidelines to ensure consistency, accessibility, and trust.
  • Brand identity: We created the app's name and logo, making "eVivlio" instantly recognizable and aligned with its educational mission.
  • Lean architecture: The app was built on a local database structure, allowing for offline access so every student—even those without reliable internet—could download and use the audiobooks.
  • Rapid execution: Despite the tight timeline, we delivered a polished, stable product that balanced usability with scalability.

Results:

  • 76,300 downloads (52,100 on Google Play, 24,200 on App Store)
  • 4.4 rating on Google Play (141 reviews)
  • 4.7 rating on App Store (37 reviews)
  • 185,000 audiobook downloads within the first months

eVivlio not only solved the Ministry's challenge but also set a precedent for how public and private partnerships can use design and technology to make literature more accessible to students nationwide.

Prime Minister's Endorsement:

In a significant endorsement of the project's impact, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis personally presented the eVivlio mobile app, highlighting its importance in making literature accessible to Greek students nationwide.
